please could someone give me the dosage of EMYTRYL that I can add to water for rabbits and the frequency of such dosage
I had read in about this prevention of diaorhea in a book called \"RABBITS THE MODERN WAY\" but do not have access to this book anymore and it is not available for sale in my country
I don\'t know about the Emytryl but if you are having problems with diarrhea in your rabbits, take away all feed except for hay. Feed them all the grass hay they will eat as well as some oats. Diarrhea is usually a sypmtom of some sort of intestinal inbalance and/or a lack of fiber in the diet. Do not feed lettace or other fruits and vegetables - just hay and oats until the diarrhea stops. Slowly add back in it\'s food stuffs one at a time and take note of what will cause a return of the diarrhea. Eliminate this from the diet. If your rabbit has diarrhea caused by an illness, then you may need the professional help of a rabbit knowledgeable vet.
RAISING RABBITS THE MODERN WAY was written about 30 years ago, Emytryl isn\'t available here any more. It was recommended then in treatment of Mucoid Enteropathy, which is not the wide spread problem in rabbits it was then. Since then OSU\'s Rabbit Research Center developed feedformulas that have gone a long way in preventing ME. One thing they di way promote the addition of copper sulfate to the feeds. Too bad the Center was shut down, they produced a lot of useful rabbit research.
They make a powdered med called noemyacin suplhate thats good for ME problems. And one called corrid thats good against coccidia problems. Basically the dosage is 1 teaspoon of the drug mixed per gallon of water. I treat at least once a month for coccidia, and ME as a preventative.
Treatment of Mucoid Enteropathy depends upon the cause. If it\'s bacterial infection, neomycin (Biosol) is a good antibiotic for cleaning the GI tract but caree must be used to replace the good bugs as the meds will kill good and bad alike. I much prefer Sulfaquinoxaline to treat Coccidia, at least it\'s registered as a rabbit medication.
