Hello there I just got 6 rabbits from my father and 3 of the females are pregnant. I came in this kind of blind please help. Give me some suggestions how long are they pregnant i was told 28 days. How long after she has them will she go into heat again. When are the babies ready to wean.
hey, rabbit babies are born between day 28 and day 35. rabbits don\'t \"go into heat\", they are what is called enduced ovulater. that is where they can have a cycle when they need(as they find a buck). this is where they get the saying \"breeding like rabbits\" because they can breed at anytime. a doe can breed a day after giving birth, but don\'t do it, that is very, VERY unhealthy for a doe. sometimes does are more ready to breed at different points. to tell, if you look at a does vent, the darker purple/red it is the more ready to breed she is. babies shouldn\'t be weaned before 6 weeks unless there is a need (aggesive mom, ect), i wean mine at 6 weeks and sell at 8 weeks that way i can take them from mom and make sure that in that 2 week buffer period they are eating and drinking on their own and doing fine.
At 28 days pregnant, your does should get their nest boxes. Does will then give birth at 30 - 31 days. Babies are ready to wean at approx 6 weeks. Some are ready alittle earlier, some alittle later. Take your lead from the doe - if she acts aggressive towards her babies or acts really tired of them, wean them. Rabbits do not come into heat. They are induced ovulators which means that the act of mating with a buck is what causes the eggs to be released. There are certain times during the month when a doe will be more receptive to the buck and there are times when a doe will get growly wanting to be bred but they do not go into heat like a dog or cat will. That is why a rabbit can become pregnant almost anytime.
