I have a lop rabbit. I have had him for about 5 months. He is approximately 9 months old. Just recently, his fur is shedding very bad. It gets all over my clothes, it floats in the air,and it is all inside his cage. It has gotten to the point where I am afraid to take him out of his cage anymore because of this mess. If anyone can tell me if this is normal or any suggestions of how I can stop this from happening, please let me know.
We have a lop too. She started shedding A LOT at about the same age. I read that rabbits shed many times during the year, to me it seems a constant cycle. We bought two slicker brushes. The first wasn\'t made for rabbits, but for cats and didn\'t work at all. The second was wire and made for rabbits. It works great. We let our bun come up to us to be petted and part of the petting time is brushing time. Even at that, man does she have a lot of loose hair. The brushing does deffinitely help though. Good luck, if you find something better post it and we\'ll try it. OH, one last thing, buns will eat their hair. This can cause fur balls so give her as much hay as she can eat. Buns can\'t vomit, so furballs can be dangerous, but plenty of hay usually takes care of it. We go to our local feed store and get loose hay that they sweep up. It\'s clean and they have a constant supply from moving bales. They just throw it away so it\'s free. We keep a constant clean supply in her litter box over the litter. She loves it.
