Hi Folks!

This is my first ever post to any online forum, so please forgive me for any mistakes.

My problem is this: I am connected to a small commercial rabbitry with about 1000 rabbits, and every morning we find 3 to 5 dead animals which had seemed healthy enough the night before. There is usually no diarrhoea or other obvious condition present.

This is happening to our fattener stock and is causing severe losses.

We are located in a tropical climate.

Can anyone suggest what the problem could be?
It seems to me that 3 to 5 every day is alot. Is there any sign that a critter is getting in and maybe scaring them to death(which can happen) or if you are not careful they can easily get overheated and die.
good luck
Hi Jody:

Thanks for your help!
No, I don\'t think some unwelcome visitor is scaring the rabbits to death. But,
we have been having some very hot weather here in T&T, and also the cages
may be a bit crowded. So,
I am going to test your theory right away with some new cages that I have built
recently and space out the neighborhood a bit.
Thanks for your advice.
Hello, I posted my question a moment ago but it doesn\'t show...
my bunny\'s one eye(right side) seems having a problem.
She keeps it closed and I noticed a little bit of clear mucous as well.
All I can tell is that it must discomfort or hurt because she is very reluctant to let me touch.
Her pupil looks Ok. It seems some kind of infection in the eyelid area, but it\'s just my guess.
What is strange is that she was perfectly fine in the morning till up to now.
It just happened a while ago all of sudden.
I washed the eye with saline solution and examining right now.
and if it doesn\'t get better I plan to take her to the emergency vet.
I just wonder what is the cause of this sudden problem?
anyone knows? or similiar experience?
greid,
How are the bunns? I am hopping that things are looking up!

Hi Jodi:

Deaths have gone down to two per night! Still too early to make a reasonable assessment, though!

Thanks!
