hi, i have a 1 year old holland lop bunny named buster. about a week ago he got a really fat left cheek, and it wasnt till about 2 days ago that the swelling went away completely. i called pet stores and vets ect and they said it could be alot of things and i would have to take him in (big big $$$) so i had no idea what was wrong with poor old buster.....but then tonight i was playing with him and he lifted up his chin and i saw a scar which i havnt seen before. i looked closely and saw that there was a hole, which i am suspecting that that is where a tooth was once poking threw. it made me feel really bad that i didnt notice this before. the tooth is no longer in it though, which is probably good. but what can i do to 1. make sure this scar heals and 2. prevent this from happening again. please help..the less i have to do with a vet the better, my last rabbit which i had for 6 years got sick and i spent $300 out of my own pocket (being 16 thats alot) and then he died a week later. thanks for reading
The swelling in the cheek may indicate that Buster has an abscess in his cheek. An abscess that develop any where in the head is usually associated with tooth root infections. An abscess is a cavity filled with pus, which needs to be lanced and drained at the vet.

Please take Buster to the vet for an assessment on what and where the problem is. The vet knows best. Let the vet advise you on the cost of treatment. You may then decide whether to continue treatment.

If you can’t afford the expenses, then:

a) give Buster to someone who can treat it.
b) put it down at the vet as a last resort, if Buster is suffering terribly and no one is willing to treat it.

DO NOT LET BUSTER CARRY ON WITHOUT TREATMENT. IT IS VERY CRUEL. Please bear in mind that keeping a pet takes a lot of responsibility and expenses. A pet can’t stay healthy forever. Do not take in a pet unless you are prepared to bear the cost of treatment.

from what you described I almost wonder if his teeth need to be filed down. I agree with magoh that he may have an infection in his tooth but I also wonder if the teeth are too long and went through the skin causing an abscess. I do also think that you should take Buster into the vet for a check. The initial cost of a visit shouldn\'t be too much and I would hope that your parents would help in the vet expenses since they let you get a pet at such a young age.
good luck and please keep us posted!
