my bunny is a mother of six 6 weeks old babies and recently she has begun to mount and hump them continuously, being shocked at this behavior we took her away from them and put her in the insidew cage, (because the babies were running around ouside) and then witnessed some of the babies doing the same. we have not yet been able to sex the babies but we are think that the main culprits are boys. if you have any info, please let me know! thanks
The mother mounting the babies is not uncommon, it is her way of telling them she is the boss. It is a dominant behavior. Same for the babies. Dogs are the same way, females will do it to other females or to males to show dominance.
Thumperluver,
I tried to reply to this yesterday and it never showed up. It is normal for the mother to do this. She is just telling them she is boss. They really need to be with mom until at least 7 to 8 wks of age.
Good luck,
jodi
thanks, is it also normal for her to pull their hair out in large clumps?
Mine has never pulled the hair like that. I would have to say that no it is not normal.
Good luck and keep us posted as to how the babies are doing.
the babies are now 8 weeks and have stopped feeding from her so we put mom in a different cage and now she is pullng out her own hair. we arent sure what is going on but advice would help.
