If you were going to buy a show carrier what would be some of the factors you would consider before buying one? What would be your ideal price? and Would you prefer one with a tray/pan attached to the bottom?
I`ve seen show carriers for sale for anywhere from $18-$38, less for the one-hole carriers and more for the 4 or 6 hole carriers. I like 4 hole carriers for the dwarf breeds like Jersey Woolies and Netherland Dwarfs and 3 hole carriers for medium breeds like Mini Lops. All the carriers I`ve ever seen for sale have come with metal trays attached and I wouldn`t buy a carrier w/o a tray.
Most show rooms allow only carriers with a solid bottom to contain the wastes - usually a wire floor for the rabbit to sit on that sits into a metal tray. Whatever kind you buy, just make sure it is plenty big for the size of rabbit at full growth but yet not too large. I hate it when I go to shows and see large rabbits stuffed into carriers made for a medium sized rabbit. A carrier that is too large is also not a good thing as it gives the rabbit so much room that it can injure itself it it should startle and run into the side. Most equiptment dealers can help pick out the proper carrier if you tell them what kind of rabbit you have. Price is going to depend on the quality of the wire used, whether the wire is plastic coated, whether you get handles, whether the dividers are solid or wire, and the overall size. A big one will cost more than a little one. A small 4 hole can be cheaper than a large 2 hole. It just depends on what it is that you are wanting and the options available.
