My healthy little Mini Rex bunny Chevy has recently lost one of his top front teeth. At feeding time he like a few other rabbits grabs on to the cage and shakes it with his front teeth. He doesn\'t have any other problems and all of my other rabbits are fine so it puzzles me. He must have pulled too hard on the cage or something because it\'s completely gone. Do you think it will grow back? I am really curious and would hate to end his lovely show career!

Confused, M S
If his tooth had merely broken leaving some of its root embedded in the gum, the tooth will grow back. If he had lost the entire tooth i.e. including the root (similar to an extraction), it will never grow back.

A rabbit\'s teeth grow continually throughtout its life and wear down only through grinding of the teeth when eating. Your rabbit will need frequent visit to the vet for trimming of his teeth since one of his lower front teeth will not wear down in the absence of the top tooth. Without treatment, the poor rabbit will not be able to eat.
