Hello all.
I am new to the form and wanted to try and get some expert advice from breaders about the sniffles and a certian product if anyone has tried this. I purchased some rabbits eairler this year and one of the breaders we got them from, some of the rabbits must of had sniffles. I have been told this is a desease that can not be cured and the best thing to do is to put the rabbits down sick ones. I have went to the vet and 200.00 dollars later we still have rabbits that sneeze and show a slight bit of discharge every once and a while. Its warmed up here in utah and the problem seems to have went away but every thing I have read said it is not curable. So sorry for the long winded but has any one used this product Rabbit-Mycin Nose Drops and does it kill the desease or does it just put it in remission for a while. Reviews on the product seems really good.
Thanks for any help and advice.

Danny,

Yes, what you were told is correct, Snuffles is incurable in rabbits. As breeders we do generally put them down because it's HIGHLY contagious (which is why you now have several sneezing rabbits).

Rabbit-Mycin, VetRX and even an antibiotic called Baytril (Vet perscribed) will only help mask the symptoms they will never cure the illness.

I hate to say this, but honestly, you need to find a way to put down all who are showing signs of illness (nasal discharge, sneezing, matting on the inside of the front feet) and then completely clean and disinfect (using a bleach/ water mixture) all cages, bowls, feeders, carriers, etc then rinse well and let dry in the Sunlight for a day before putting any other rabbits in those cages/equipment.

Keep a close watch on the remaining rabbits to make sure they too don't develop any signs of Snuffles.

So sorry you are having to deal with this...it's heartbreaking to deal with I know.....been there!

Good Luck,
Pat

Thank you very much. I really appercieate the honesty and the consern. I will have to look out for this in the future. As for now we have one boy rabbit that is not sick and we have had him away from the others. But I believe we still need to keep a close eye on him. Thanks again.
