I am not a rabbit owner as of yet, due to questions I have before making the decision. Quick intro I am an animal control officer for my city, and we have a rabbit that was picked up out of someones garden. She has been with us since the middle of April, no one has claimed her, and now still no one has adopted her. She has the best temperment, and I have to admit she really likes me (as I do her
)
Any ways my question is about having a rabbit outside in a hutch. I worry about the heat where I live. I have an area in my backyard that is shaded 24hrs 7 days a week, and a cross breeze, but still I worry about the heat. The reason I am asking is not only because I really like her, but normally, as I am sure some of you know, when animals at some shelters are not adopted they are put down. Good thing I have the say so on her but I am her last resort if you know what I mean. I also know no yard is secure from other animals, but I don't have any problems with animals in my neighborhood, I must be doing my job pretty good.
Reason she can't be inside is I have an inside only cat with a HIGH hunting drive and it would be that one time a bedroom door would be left open. I also own 2 dogs but they don't bother anything and don't really care. lol
I heard that sometimes it depends on what breed the rabbit is to be outside, I am not sure of her breed but she is a medium sized blue/gray color, short hair, with stand up ears. I will try to post a pic later if I get a chance. Any help, ideas, etc any of you can give me I would be so greatful on.
Sorry to blabber on and on, but I really want to get her a home wether it's here with me or else where, but want to make sure she will be ok with me being outside.
