I have started trying to raise cottontails. They are in a pen on ground. Twice I have had a female dig a burrow, and gather straw, hay and fur to build a nest and then cover the entrance to burrow. Then I found some of the kits dead. Today I watched a female busy gathering and then she just covered entrance. This would be the third time they have dug a tunnel and seemed to build a nest, and then covered it up. Why are they doing this?
