Hello there,

first timer and unfortunately never thought to check out sites like this before now. My daughters beloved pet rabbit simply dropped dead yesterday, no symptoms...seemed fine in the morning...after school he was laying down very strangely and within 5 minutes had dropped dead. Needless to say we were distraught and the biggest feeling was of confusion. How could an apparently healthy rabbit just drop dead? I have since read up on this and it would seem to be a case of VHD...which I was completely unaware of. We hadn't taken him to the vets because he was very aggressive and bit people....which we deeply regret now of course.

How come this disease seems to be so little known?

I have never known of a rabbit with VHD before. How long did you have your rabbit? Was your rabbit exposed to other rabbits where he could have gotten the virus from?

I had an aggressive female once, but she lost her aggression once she was spayed.

He was 4 years old and exposed to no other rabbits. ???
