We have a male mini lop and he is almost 1 year old. We have him in a cage inside and let him run around the room daily and take good care of him. We clean his cage once a week. He always has enough clean water and good food. Since this afternoon he seems different, he didnt want to come out of his cage at first and when he did he didnt really jump/run around but went under the bed and decided to ly down. its very unlike him. he usually chases me around. not sure when he last ate, it was sometime today but doesnt seem very interested. he likes it when we pet him and stays on my lap for a long while. he usually gets sick of it quickly and jumps off. what could be wrong? should i go to a vet? i dont want to find him dead tomorrow!
I have a three and a half year old male mini lop. When he reached about a year old I have noticed that he just wants to do his own thing (must be a mini lop thing). He is also a house rabbit and likes to get pets and cuddles. Some days he is more active than others. Some days he does not come out of his cage until about 7pm. If I want him out i have to show him his toy that he has had since he was a baby and that normally works. Most days he just wants to come into the living room to sleep. Yet other days he comes into the living room and want you to play with him. I was also concerned and asked my vet. She said that some rabbit as they grow older they just want to do their own thing. But that is what my vet said if you are really worried, see your vet.
Rabbits lives are shorter than yours and they get to different points faster than you would. He may be hitting an adolsccent stage where he isn\'t as jumpy and silly now. It is usually easier to tell when does get into this stage because some get snippy and growl when they become sexually mature (which is usually around 6 months).
If you are worried he may be coming down with something then by all means -call your vet. You would notice discharge around his nose or possibly runny eyes and he would seem droopy.
If his feces is solid and round then he would be ok...
My one Netherland dwarf doe is not a big eater. Sometimes she eats things I put in and sometimes not. I do not worry about it because she seems to eat enough for her but not as much as my fat New Zealand -who just *loves* her food!
