My fiance and I recently got a male rabbit for my 7 year old daughter, we got him a wire cage with a pull out drawer on the bottom for easy cleaning. He is an indoor bunny so, this seemed like a good buy. However, we are finding that the urine leaks out in the corners, so we altered it some and put the drop pan in the cage, but then Snowball was sitting in his urine and droppings. We changed it back and applied plexiglass on the outside of his cage, thinking this may stop the urine from getting outside the cage and on the floor and it still is leaking out the back corners and all over my bathroom flooring. My daughter wants him in her room, but do to the leaking urine, and I have new carpet I have to keep him on the bathroom floor. If anyone has any ideas on the type of cage to use indoors that may stop this or has any ideas, please let me hear them.
Thank you,
Snowballs Parents
If you would be willing to try, rabbits can be trained to use a litter box. Unfortunately, some don\'t catch onto the idea, but many do. If you could buy a cat litter pan and bedding (I use wood shavings) and try putting that in your rabbit\'s cage, it may work. My first litter-trained rabbit immediately caught onto the idea and I didn\'t have any more messes. If you notice the rabbit uses only one spot where the urine is leaking out, try placing the litter box there. Hope that helps!

I have Superpet cages for my bunnies. They have a large, deep, plastic bottom, a detatchable cage, and plastic flooring (which is much better for them so they don\'t get sore hocks.) In addition to upgrading the cage I also recommend litter training your bunny, but please DO NOT use any type of wood shavings as it has been documented to cause respiratory problems with rabbits. I use Critter Country, pelletized straw in their litterbox. This asorbs the urine. I line the bottom of the cage with black and white newspaper for extra asorbency. With any type of litter it must be changed at least every other day. The ammonia odor is very strong, especially in a small room.
there are pee gaurds you can buy at most pet stores, i have them and my rabbits no longer leak!
