Hi again everyone, I really value the advice I get on here so I thought I\'d post again on something we\'re debating over right now.

I currently have two rabbits, two mixed breed dwarfs. They are young (around 4 months). They are pets only and will both eventually be neutured when they are old enough (we took the male to the vet last week to be neutured but his right testicle has not descended yet! boo!). My boyfriend and I are responsible bunny owners and I read up on how to best take care of them.

Anyway, this is what I need advice on. We went to a bunny gathering about a month ago where we met a lot of bunny owners and some real cute rabbits, also. One pair of bunnies in particular got along real well with our two rabbits, and they were good looking lops too. I took a bunch of pictures of them. Anyway, about a week ago, the owner of the two bunnies that I liked emailed everyone saying she is moving the beginning of summer and would like to find someone to take on her two rabbits. They are one male and one female, 3 years old and 2.5 years old. They are two lops, kind of on the big side, but very cute. The male is neutured and they both have sweet personalities.

So my question is, how much more of a cost would it be to take on two more adult rabbits? They would all be just pet rabbits. I\'m not rich by any means but I could afford extra food for two more rabbits. I am just mostly concerned about the \'unseen\' costs such as vet care, etc. Also, our rabbits and those rabbits got along well at the bunny gathering, but I\'m assuming there is a possibility they may not get along all the time later. But both pairs are bonded, so I guess we could just keep them seperate if we ever had problems, and let the two pairs out at different times, etc.

Anyway, what do you all think? Any input is greatly appreciated!! Thanks =)

In the pictures, our two bunnies are the little black and white one (our male, Bonbon) and the little white one (our female, Yuki) and the lops are the two bunnies I\'m considering. The white, black and brown one is the male and the caramel one is the female.

Ask before you decide if these rabbits have any health problems or teeth problems, very common in lops.if they need there teeth cut its expensive if you dont do it yourself.bluebird
There is always a risk taking someones else\'s animals. Hopefully they do not harbor snuffles or any other diseases and if the choice is made to indeed take them home you should quarantene them away from your others for some time to make certain.
Bluebird is right, check the teeth right off the bat. If there are problems that may lead to undo medical expenses if you are not prepared. Example: My little dwarf has developed malacclusion and I will have to clip his teeth every month -forever, if I decide not to cull him.
As far as added expenses...with more rabbits you are probably less inclined to buy alot of marketed treats and such and keep them on a stricter diet -which in the long run is better for the rabbit. I don\'t know how you buy food for your others -in smaller bags or larger sacks, but I buy mine in 50 lb bags and that last me with the 9 rabbits for quite some time.
I think my concern would be if you had the proper housing -is she giving you the cages/hutches -that would be the biggest expense if you were just getting the rabbits.
And still...a rabbit is a rabbit and rabbits should not be kept together for their safety. Alot do get along and it is nice if they can to have a buddy but usually one of them wil start a fight or territorial competition. Do not leave them alone unsupervised is they are together.
That would be my concerns for adding rabbits but if you have time to think about it and can make a rational decision then that would be wise so you are not stuck with more than you can handle either. Smile
Good luck and let us know when you get them! Wink
