Just a few questions...what do you all do to have a successful meat rabbitry? Who do you sell the rabbits to and how many are necessary for it to be worth it?
Is it legal for local people to buy rabbits for comsumption or do they have to go thru some \"inspection\" to be sold as meat in the market?
Can they be sold to butcher shops to sell? Do yu take all the meat rabbits to auction?
Just really curious about this....
In most areas, meat rabbits must be sold live direct to consumers to be \"legal\". Otherwise, slaughter plant inspection is required. You should check with your state department of agriculture or health department for official regulations. Some individuals get around this requirement by selling \"live\" and doing the slaughter for \"free\".

The numbers required depends on if you want supplemental or full-time income from the enterprise. The main factor on success would depend on whether you were located either within striking range of a processor/buyer or on or near a route of a mobile buyer. 400 does minimum is considered a full-time operation.

Auction prices are traditionally very low, so I wouldn\'t recommend that as an option.
