I am wanting to get my own tattoo kit so I can tattoo all my rabbits as well as my future bunnies. I\'d like your opinions on the type of tattoo kit you use and why you like or dislike a particular type and what your recommendations are as far as purchasing a kit.
We are leaning towards the plier type rather then the pen type. But which size would I need for this? Is it the 5/8\'s?
We have an ARBA judge which just lives down the road from us and I have emailed him asking if he could tattoo our rabbits but so far haven\'t heard back from him. That would by far be the easiest route to take but still I want to purchase my own tattooer and do this myself eventually.
THANKS in advance for your responses.
I use the Stone brand clamp tattoo set (.300 size). It has worked well. I also have an EZ Tat which is a tattoo pen. I bought it to touch up tattoos when needed.
i use a ez tatt and i love it. its so simple to use and the rabbits are fine to use it on
I have used the Bat-Tatt, EZ-Tatt, and the AZ Rabbit-Tat (made by a friend of mine). I like the latter best of all, but I prefer all the preceeding to the plier-type, which I used for years.
What I like about all the above is that they produce an immediately readable tattoo. If need be, a tattoo can be applied just before a show and looks just fine.
One thing I didn\'t like about the plier-type was that on the thinner eared rabbits, there was a tendency for the needles to go right through the ear which increased the risk of tearing.
I do think the battery operated tattoo pens take a little more practice to get proficient at using, but I think they\'re well worth it.

I agree with Charlcie in that the tattoo pens are alot easier to use and the tattoo is alot nicer looking and easier to read. I used a Weston clamp for almost 10 years now and it worked fine but I bought my EZ Tatt pen last year and it is so much easier. The only thing is that it does take some getting used to and my wife usually has to help me hold the rabbits. If you are not in the ear far enough they get jumpier, because I think it tickles them, so I put an ice cube on it to numb it and that helps. But the tattoo is so nice and clear. Eventually I will be able to do it by myself I\'m sure. Good luck deciding.

I like the plier type. The old metal clampers. I think you get more control over the rabbit and over the initial tattoo process.
But thats me -set in my ways! LOL
Don\'t believe me when I say change is good -its\' not always! LOLOL
