Hi everyone, need some advice on my little rabbit Yuki.

My boyfriend took them out of their (outdoor) cage today and brought them inside to hop around and explore. He said ten minutes or so after he brought them in, our smaller female bunny started vomitting what he swears are cecal poops. He said she vomitted one, then after a short pause vomitted about five or six total. She wasn\'t hacking, but she sort of just \"spit them out.\"

I am really concerned. She has been having an excess of cecal poops lately, but I have decided this is because of the pellets I feed them. When they eat only hay, she does not have that problem. I have been noticing that she has been having a lot lately, so we have been cutting back on the pellets almost entirely.

She has been acting otherwise normal. It has been hotter than usual the past day or so, about 85 degrees. Does anyone have any tips for us? My boyfriend put them back into their cage, and when I came home there was a pile of about 12-15 cecal poops all in a pile in the middle of their cage.

I am going to the vet tomorrow, coveniently enough, but I am worried that she is extremely sick and needs vet attention now. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Rabbits can\'t vomit, so your boyfriend is mistaken. Your rabbit sounds like she needs less protein in her diet - the hay (oatmeal too) is a good idea. Some rabbits will produce excess cecotropes if the diet is on the rich side. You might try probiotic therapy also.

Thanks so much for the reply! I went to the vet yesterday, the day after that happened, and she said the same thing. Their diet is probably too rich and the reason there are so much cecals all over the place is because she\'s not eating all of them. She also said that Yuki was probably in the act of eating them, then when my boyfriend brought them in it was semi-stressful so she didn\'t get the chance to ingest them and just decided to spit them out.

Anyway they\'re doing pretty well now, I\'m just concerned about it getting sort of hot (I\'m in Hawaii), but I\'ve starting putting a frozen bottle of water in their cage, but they don\'t really go near it yet. I guess they\'ll start noticing it more when it starts to get hotter.

Thanks again! ^_^
Yes, heat is very dangerous to rabbits. There was a string of posts on here that dealt with how to keep a rabbit cool, and I\'ll try to find it for you.

Quick question about your Yuki. How did she get her name? I used to have a white cat named Yuki and she was from Japan. I loved her very much. I was told her name meant \"snowflake\" in Japanese. Just wondering how your name came to be. Smile
Thanks, that would be awesome! It gets pretty hot and humid here in Hawaii, so any help would be greatly appreciated! We hope to be moving out soon so we can bring the bunnies inside, but for now they are in a large cage right by the backdoor (my mom and jack russel terrier are the reasons they are not indoor bunnies now!).

I named her Yuki because she is all white ^_^ Yuki does mean \'snow\' or \'snowflake\' in Japanese. I took about four years of Japanese language (the popular language of choice here in Hawaii). Our dog (jack russel terrier mentioned before) is named Shimi, Japanese for \'spot.\' ^_^ So if you\'d like any cute Japanese names, just let me know!

Thanks again for the response!
