I have a doe due to kindle tomorrow and although I supplied her with a nest box she has built her nest beside it instead.
I\'ve never had one do this before. Should I go ahead and put hay in the nesting box again. She pulled it all out the first time I did that. I wasn\'t really sure what to do, because like I said, I\'ve never had a doe do this before. What I did for now is slide a board under the nest she made on the wire and put up a board across the open part of the nest so that the babies wouldn\'t be able to scatter.
What do you suggest?
If you have extra nestboxes you could put more than one in so there isn\'t room for her to build one on the wire.
Or another thing I like to do is put the nest box where the doe made her nest. Sometimes they want it where they make the nest, not where we put the box. In the past I have had a few do this and once it was put where they made the nest they had no problems with it at all. Good luck. I know here in Indiana the babies would be frozen if they were outside of the box. Tony Artist
All\'s well. When I went out this morning she had moved all the hay into the nest box and pulled enough hair to cover three litters I think! And there are 7 new Mini Rex bunnies in our rabbitry this morning. All appear healthy and seem to be doing good.
Our high today is 70, no freezing babies here. :O)
Congrats! Can\'t wait to see pics!
OH I would love to have temp\'s in the 70\'s. We still have the dreaded snow on the ground but it is starting to get warmer, a whole 36 degrees today,ha! Congrats on the new litter, I will be checking to see pictures of them.

Congrats on the new babies! We\'re in the 70\'s this week too, but last week we were below freezing. We spent weeks below freezing so we\'re loving these temps.
Us too, it\'s a WONDERFUL change. Just wish Spring would come and stay now.
