Just discovered this forum and so glad!!
I use to breed Mini Lops. But I also had a variety of other bunnies as well. I had several black and white checkered Dutch, a fuzzy lop, and some Netherland Dwarfs.
I was in my early twenties when I had all of my bunnies and I became known as the \"bunny woman\" and people often gave me bunnies they no longer wanted. I didn\'t have the heart to say no, because I was afraid they would end up with someone who didn\'t care or know anything about bunnies.
Fortunatly we had space in our yard as well as a small shed that my parents help fix to keep the bunnies in.
One winter we had it so bad with the cold and snow my dad brought all bunnies (twelve at the time) inside our basement because he worried they would freeze. So when spring came we slowly put them back outside in the hutches.

Now, my husband and I are interested in having bunnies again. I do miss having them! They were so fun! He wants Flemish Giants, but my heart is for Mini Lops!! I love those MINIS!! We have a 1/2 acre of land and in the process of looking into a small barn and some hutches.
Welcome!

I know how you feel about Mini Lops! I raised them as a kid and when my kids decided to join 4H and get into rabbits, it was the Mini Lops I sought out.

We are very fortunate to have gotten started with great rabbits from some of the Top breeders on the East Coast. We\'ve even managed to add some beautiful bunnies from a Top Breeder & Judge from Colorado.

If you want help finding good Mini Lop breeders in your area just email us at: fostercarerabbitry@yahoo.com

I\'d be happy to steer you in the right direction (I know how hard it was for us to find ML breeders) Smile
Hi and welcome to the forums!
Hello and welcome to the board. My children show Holland Lops and Mini Rex through 4H and in the process they\'ve got me hooked on rabbits too.
Thanks!
My husband and I discovered their is going to be a rabbit show in May at the University of Tennessee. We live only about a half hour to forty five minutes away from Knoxville. So we are eagerly looking forward to going and finding some breeders in this area as well. I know there is the Smoky Mountain Rabbit Breeders Assoc. too, and they might be the ones hosting the show.
Yes, rabbits are addictive!!
My Mini Lop buck I had was named Mugwai, and my doe was named Gizmo. Mugwai was a steel grey agouti, and Gizzy was a brown agouti. She carried the recessive C gene so most often their was an albino in the litter. She wasn\'t show quality, like Mugwai was. But she was such an excellant mother to her kits and most of her babies ended up looking like dad. She also had a wonderful personality as well as Mugwai did too.
I certainly do miss my pair!! I had them both for about twelve years.
Welcome,i used too raise minilops too but i decided i liked Dwarfs the best.bluebird
Welcome to the Board! Smile

Why don\'t you get BOTH breeds? I haven\'t raised Mini Lops, but have several friends that do, so I know your attraction. I have raised Flemish Giants and still have quite a soft spot for them. They\'re a wonderful breed - very sweet. If your husband decides to get started in Flemish, just be sure to be aware of some of their unique needs.

We do plan on getting both breeds. We\'ll probably start out with a buck and doe of each.

What are the needs of a Flemish?

I read somewhere someone stated a hutch for a Flemish should be 2 feet by 3 feet. I thought that was kind of small for a Flemish considering they are big bunnies.
