Hi everyone, I have just started raising rabbits again after a long dry spell. The stock that I purchased developed snuffles about 2 days after I got them. I have been using VetRX to help with the problem but was curious about trying some type of antibiotic to help clear the problem up. Anyone have advice on what to use?
Please read the House Rabbit Society\'s information on this health problem. What does your Vetrinarian advise?
Hello. Snuffles is a bacterial infection that can spread like wild fire to you other rabbits. If left untreated, snuffles can cause a secondary infection such as pneumonia. High levels of ammonia often lead to outbreaks of snuffles and unfortunately is no cure. In can be treated but basically it will go dormant which there may no signs. Once the rabbits is under stress the snuffles will occur again and you are back at square one.
If you are planning on showing your rabbits, breeding and selling, you will be spreading this infection to other rabbits (and rabbitries). My daughter shows rabbits for 4H and the only alternative is to put the rabbits down. I am sorry for the bad news, however, if you are not planning to show, or sell your stock, call your vet, and let them help you take care of your bunnies.
Pondge
give them batril you can get it from a vet after about a 5 day treatment you will notice a much healtheir rabbit i always give this to any of my rabbits who go of feed or start to sneeze and it works great
good luck
give them batryl which is a drug that you can get from your local vet you have to be able to tell your vet how much your rabbit wieghs though
good luck
Might I add a different option? Even with Baytril, studies show that the pasteurella infection is not gone - just put temporarily at bay. I have used a natural herbal remedy - Systemajuv, that builds the rabbit\'s natural immunity system. You can get it from the Rabbit Medicine Chest. I first used it about a year ago, and was amazed! (See, you can always learn something new, even at my age.)

I have a link to the Rabbit Medicine Chest on my Website:

Good luck. Smile

if you catch snuffles early it works really well if you have a rabbit that will not eat give it batryl get your dosage from a vet it works really well for rabbits that won\'t eat or drink my mom always keeps it stocked for me to use it also works really well on respirtory diseases i agree with charlcie in the fact that it only keeps it at bay for a while but it\'s reall easy to get and it could keep it at bay long enough for you to get the stuff charlcie was talking about i\'ll have to get my mom to look into that stuff

thanks and good luck
are you sure it is snuffles? I had the vet culture one of my rabbits that was snotty and sneezing. It was not pasterella. I treated him with rabbit mycin.I got it from Stibbar. He is doing fine now. It could be bordatella, allergies, iritant up the nose. poor circulation in the rabbitry any number of things.
Were your rabbits picked up by you and transported or were they shipped via airplane? I shipped many rabbits via air and several got sick when they arrived in their new environment- the shipping seams to trigger it- if that was the case I\'d go back to the seller- sometimes they will trade them out for ya! Good luck!
I would contact the breeder do they have any kind of garuantee.sneezing may be caused by pasturella which is not curable or bordatella which is curable.bluebird
