Nothing is more exciting than waking up to a nest box full of new babies! Our Mini Rex doe had 4 this morning on exactly day 31. Our Holland Lop that was bred the same day (I think? I had questions a month ago about the buck falling over) didn\'t have babies today. I \'m pretty sure that she\'s expecting, but since this is the first time for a Holland Lop with our family I\'m not 100% sure. We did try rebreeding her for 3 days after the original try so maybe we\'ll have them within the next few days. I certainly hope so!
breedding takes awhile and if she is expecting dont get to atached to the young ones as they might all die and if it is her first time then they are most likey to all die or you might end up with 3 to 4 new babies but dont what ever you do is get attched to them as they will die and the mother might kill afew if you disturb her because she thinks that you are going to hurt them, the only time you should look is when you are feeding the doe and the buck!
Congratulations,I hope we are getting pictures soon.bluebird
Congratulations!
We are expecting a litter of Mini Rex in the next couple of weeks. It\'s so exciting!
As far as losing the litter, handling and so on. I handle my bunnies from day one and I\'ve never lost a single bunny from a first litter due to the Dam harming or not caring for the bunnies after I held them. I believe if your doe is used to being around you and feels comfortable with you she will in no way consider harming her kits. I have always checked in on the new ones several times a day with no ill affects. I\'ve raised rabbits off and on for 30 years and this is always how I have done it. You know your rabbits best, so take the que from them themselves. If she feels uncomfortable with you nosing around, give her a treat in the opposite corner of the cage and have a quick peek while she is happily munching.
Good Luck with your upcoming Holland Lop litter.
I bred my Jersey Wooly 6 days ago and am chomping at the bit to find out if she took. Sometimes the waiting is so hard. But so well worth it.
Let us know how things go with both rabbits and their litters.
bunnymad-06: You said that the only time I should look in at the kits is if I\'m feeding the buck and doe. The buck and doe should not be in the same cage. If you have the buck and doe together, then that could be the reason why you\'re having a problem with kits dying. Although this is the first time with our Holland Lops, it isn\'t our first time for us to breed Mini Rex. We\'ve never had a hard time with first time mothers killing her kits. We have had kits die, but that is part of life. If you handle your adult rabbits on a regular basis, then you shouldn\'t have a problem with mothers killing kits. At least, we never have.

About pictures, if I can figure out how to post pictures, then I will. I might have to have one of my children show me how ;- )

The four Mini Rex kits are doing fine. I think a couple of them may be peanuts :- ( The Holland Lop built her a nest last night but no babies yet. She\'s still got another couple of days from the last attempted breeding.
Three kits of the four were peanuts and died. That\'s sad... Holland Lop doe hasn\'t had kits so I guess she\'s not going to. That\'s sad too... I guess we\'ll try again...
Yea it is sad. Sorry to read this. How is the remaining kit doing?
I was a little concerned about the 1 remaining kit since its gotten cold here, but actually it is doing great. It\'s a broken, we think maybe castor, but it\'s still too soon to tell. Castor is the color that we like best so hopefully it will be a great show winner.
Congratulations 4hmom...that is great that you have at least one little happy kit! Good luck with the little squirt.
I bred my Lorelei so we\'d have Halloween babies -notta, nothing...not breeding any now till February. I didn\'t make out too good with the breeding the past few times. Sad
