I have a litter of Mini Rex due in a little over 2 weeks. My buck is chocolate/white my doe, solid chocolate. This is their first litter together. Is it likely they will throw chocolate solids and brokens just due to their coloring alone or will their parents play a factor in the color scheme?
The bucks sire is solid chocolate, dam a broken blue.
The does sire solid chocolate, dam a broken black.
Thanks
hi my name is bunnymad-06 is that your rabbit in that picture its so cute i\'m sorry i dont know anything about your question but we could still tlk sometime goodluck from bunnymad-06
You might get some chocolate, some blues, maybe black.some will be broken some solid.Yes whats in the pedigree can appear.blue is a recessive color soo it can pop up even if its not on the pedigree.chocolate is also a recessive color.bluebird
You could also possibly get Lilac or Broken Lilac. Lilac is the dilute of Chocolate so knowing the dilute gene is present, makes that a possibility. Don\'t count on any Blacks. There are other possibilities, but you won\'t know until you see the litter. That\'s part of the fun.

I didn\'t figure I would get any blks. In the does litter, as stated her dam was blk and white, sire was solid chocolate and out of 7 bunnies, 3 were solid chocolate and 4 were broken chocolate. So I knew chocolate was dominant. Lilac is such a pretty color. I\'d love to get some lilacs.
Actually, it\'s not that Chocolate is dominant (it\'s recessive to Black), but in order to get a Chocolate rabbit, there must be a pairing of two recessive genes for Chocolate, so a Chocolate rabbit will not carry the gene for Black. A Black can be the deepest, darkest Black and still carry one gene for Chocolate - the gene for Black overshadowing the gene for Chocolate.
Breeding for color is one of the most facinating things about rabbit raising.

I find this all so interesting, THANKS so much for explaining all this to me.
It\'s much appraciated.
Here is a great website explaining the genetics of coat colors for the B series (black and chocolate).
http://www.thenaturetrail.com/BGene.htm
It also includes sections about the other genetic series that affect color. Enjoy your new litter! Please let us know what you have.
Thank You so much! That will prove very helpful to me I\'m sure. You can be certain I will post about the new litter as soon as they arrive.
